Low blood counts, such as anemia, or anemia, is often treated with blood transfusion, to help build up the red blood count, and regular injections of medications such as epoeitin (aka pro-crit), or aranesp can be used in addition. This is commonly seen in kidney patients, and cancer patients as well. I went through this problem myself when I was on dialysis, and received blood once or twice, followed by epoeitin injections three times per week. And, my father, who passed away from pancreatic cancer, had to receive blood transfusions every so often to help build him up from the ravages of the chemotherapy. And, there are other causes for anemia. Is there some internal bleeding, such as ulcer, or from injury? Is it from medical treatment or therapy from other medical conditions? It's important for your uncle's doctors to determine what is at the root of the low hemoglobin level, and treat the cause as well as the problem.

Hemoglobine is made up of 4 molecules of iron found inside of each red blood cell which is what allows the molecules of oxygen to attach themselves to our red blood cells.......increasing his iron intake may help by eating more red meat and certain vegetables like beans, soy products and any other food which is high in iron.....or maybe talk to his doctor about taking an iron supplement .......hope this helps

He should probably take an iron supplement. You can get them at any pharmacy.
