According to the information that I have read and by talking to doctors and www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_overview.cfm..
The answer is yes. You can have SAFER sex. There are no
100% guarantees that you will not pass on herpes. But, you
can greatly reduce that chance.
If, 100 infected men had sex with 100 women, 10 women would be infected.
If, 100 infected women, had sex with 100 men, 4 men would be infected.
According to my conversations with asha... People shed on the average of 2-21 days of the year. However, with suppressive meds the rate of transmission is reduced by up to 50% and asymptomatic shedding is reduced up to and over 80%....
So, abstaining during an outbreak, consistent condom use and
daily suppresive meds. (Note to remember, that herpes cannot penetrate the skin that is not on the genitalia). They way it gets through the "boxer shorts area" is when there is a cut or abrasion that the virus makes a direct contact with. So, if you partner has a cut, open lesion/wound, orally or facially or around the "boxer shorts area" ... I wouldn't recommend that you have contact in those areas...... Using all these conditions, men are looking at under 5% and women 1/2 of that....
Also, a person that has had herpes over an extended period of
time... Sheds less after each year.... I've read after 10 years, around 5 days a year....And after 5 years, most people don't get frequent outbreaks...
If you partner has oral herpes... There chances of getting genital herpes is reduced up to 40%.... I'm assuming because of the shared antibodies. Which is why you will notice that the majority of the people that have hsv2, don't have hsv1. And, it is rare that
someone with hsv2 will acquire hsv1 afterwards. Because,
hsv2 is stronger.
It is also rare to contract hsv2 orally. According to an infectious disease doctor who knows a great deal about herpes. He said,
that it would have to be a lot of virus and that there would have to be a cut or some kind of opening for the virus to carry through.
Because, hsv2 doesn't survive well in the saliva. Bottom line,
they have preferable areas of locations.
Happy note: There are many cases where people have gotten married, been in LTR and have never passed on herpes....
90% of people are unaware they have herpes.. So, I would
have to say that someone without herpes has a better chance
of not getting this virus from you (since, you are aware and are taking precautions) as opposed to the ones who don't have a clue..

My best friend has had genital herpes for about eight months now, and it's been really rough. She's had about 7 outbreaks. Everywhere I read it says it stops flaring up so much after time, but its not getting less frequent for her. She's been on Antiviral meds the whole time, too. She also has type 1 diabetes which she has had her whole life, which really weakens her immune system. Will it ever get better?
But after a friend share this video everything has changed.

Nothing is going to be 100% safe.
Condoms help reduce the risk of spreading herpes and being on Valtrex helps too. Valtrex is the only medication for herpes proven to HELP prevent the spread of herpes. There are other medications for herpes (I take acyclovir), but they do not HELP in preventing the spread of herpes.
Also, NEVER have sex when you are on an outbreak. Genital herpes can be spread whether a person is on an outbreak or not, but having open sores while having sex is a really good way to spread it.
I was with my ex for 4 years and he never got the virus from me, but my current boyfriend got the virus from me about 2 months after we starting having sex. So, it doesn't matter how safe or what precautions you take, there is ALWAYS a chance you can spread the virus. Be careful!

sometimes, even there is no lesion, the virus can be active on the surface of the skin without having symptoms and lesion. It's hard to tell. But normally no lesion, no symptoms, no outbreak like blisters, no early warning signs like itching around the area of, tinglings, and burning around the region, you can have sex but the safety isn't 100%. Even using condoms, the area where condoms can't be covered aren't safe.

You need to limit your breakouts and treat existing breakouts as well as possible. You can LIMIT breakouts using Valtrex. You can TREAT EXISTING breakouts with Choraphor. It works on both cold sores and genital herpes and can clear up lesions within just a day or two:
http://www.coldsore911.com/medicine-that-heals-existing-cold-sores/use-choraphor-to-get-rid-of-cold-sores-fast/
A a cold sore is an outbreak of the herpes simplex virus (HSV1). It is estimated that over 90% of Americans carry the virus, but only about 30% of those have cold sore outbreaks.
Cold sore treatment options vary widely. There is prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, and home remedies for cold sores - many of which work remarkably well.
Here are some links to a site that helped me with my own cold sore problems. Since I used some of the methods outlined here, I haven't had a problem.
This is a link to the “Ultimate Cold Sore Treatments Guide” that outlines a bunch of cold sore remedies that work, both medicinal and home treatments:
http://www.coldsore911.com/cold-sore-treatment/ultimate-cold-sore-treatments-guide/
This link is an entire glossary listing all of the best cold sore treatments compiled on to one web page:

Finally, this link is to the one medication that is proven to heal cold sores faster than anything else on the market:

That site is updated pretty regularly. Hope this helps!
