Yes you can. There are two kinds of bronchitis; one being viral and the other being bacterial which is most common, hence the antibiotics they give you. It's a myth that you cannot catch it - even I believed that for a while.

Yes it is caused by an upper respiratory infection smoking is one of the biggest causes of it.
