My girlfriend has a yeast infection and I was wondering if could get infected myself; we have protected sex, but I frequently go down on her---can that affect me? I've stopped all of the sexual activity since she told me she was infected and I was wondering about yeast infections.

If your girl's not treating her yeast infection, she needs to right away. Go to your nearest pharmacy and get some Monistat. They have many different types of it now. The best one, in my opinion, is the 1 day treatment. It comes with an insertable suppository egg, plus cream for any itching or discomfort on the outer area of the vagina. Or she can go to her doctor and get a prescription for a pill called Diflucan. It's a one day treatment also, and isn't messy like creams or suppositories.
She can pass her yeast infection on to you, but you won't show any symptoms. You'll basically just be a carrier of it, and can pass it back to her even after she's all cleared up. Use a little of the cream around the head and opening of your penis and you should be fine. If she keeps getting them, you most likely keep passing it back and forth. Yeast infections aren't really an STD though. It's a bacterial infection that is easily treated.
Going down on her, and only that--no penetration with your penis, shouldn't give you a yeast infection, but it's not very sanitary. You can tell she has a yeast infection if she's got lumpy white or yellowish discharge that smells like bread.

All women get these and I have always told my husband to put a little of the cream on the tip of hem and rub it in the little hole. No one should ever even want to have oral when a woman has a yeast infection, yuk! These are caused sometimes by wearing pants that are too tight. Or not keeping dry. I have even heard of some women using a blow dryer after they shower to make sure they are dry.
