After being a veg for 4+ years, I have come to dislike smell of meat. This may not be apparent to non-veg ppl, but if you try to go without meat for a few years, you may be able to notice the difference. There are many occassions where I have to tolerate the smell coming from the meat-based dishes of the people eatiing nearby. It isn't appetizing to me at all, and I definitely do not miss them.

As a professional chef, I always find this debate very interesting and at the same time a sad commentary on our society that people's fervor and rage gets in the way of understanding the otherside's point and enjoying new cuisine.
I agree with the comment that much of the world's population DOES infact subsist on a diet of grains, alternative proteins and vegetables.
There are infact questionable farming and herding production methods. There is also a rise in "humane" herding and farming methods as well. I truly believe that each side of this argument has its own points and flaws, the most important thing to remember for anyone when you either prepare food as a professional or in your home for your family, treat and respect what you are consuming with the utmost reverence. Too often, the mainstream part of society forgets where "Food" actually comes from.

Have you thought that maybe you are missing out on all the great foods out there? Most of the world eats a largely vegetarian diet or has a limited meat diet. Look at population density around the world. Most countries dont have the room for huge herds of cattle or large pig farms. In other countries insects are eaten more often than beef, pork and chicken combined. Ive heard of countries limiting the number of children in families because there isnt enough room or resources for much population gain. If they dont have room for people, where do they put the animals? Perhaps because you focus on eating meat you lose sight of many creative dishes you could eat or create. You probably would never think of substituting tempeh for beef in sloppy joes, but you are losing out on the different flavor aspect that it creates.

It is not everything black or white. All these discussions seem to focus on a few things like eating/not eating meat, dairy products, honey and eggs. A normal every day menue contains vegetables, rice, pasta, potatoes, fruit, cereals etc. (just name it)It is not that people who consume meat don't eat anything else nor do vegetarians and vegans merely "starve" themselves on greens. ;)
Some people eat carbs, others don't, but none of these two categories is frowned upon. So why carry on these senseless discussions and accusations that are merely based either on ignorance or carried on for the sake of being nasty? And apart from that, there is more to life than just food and what people consume.

You my friend, are a very ignorant person.
Keep eating steroid-induced beef. Maybe you'll get an artery blockage!

So many people seem to get offended by vegetarians and ask dumb questions. Obviously Vegans like to chose healthier items to eat which aren't pasta or cheese or anything with dairy and certainly they feel like they are not missing out, other wise they wouldn't be vegan. That's what I thought was an ignorant question because that's your opinion and the reason why you AREN'T vegan. Sorry for offending you, although I don't think having an opinion is offensive.

I don't understand either.
Um, the more an animal suffers, the worse its meat is. Think of all the stuff that a body releases into its system when it is in pain, fear, or suffering. All that goes into the meat. It can make the meat very tough. *I eat meat, so I'm not preaching against it, just letting you know that you sound kinda ****** when you say stuff like that.

I assume you don't have any pets, because somewhere that is someone's dinner. That is a reason why many people are vegan. For example:
