here's an idea, do 3 diff types of pasta, 3 sauces (red, alfredo, pesto for example), and a couple diff meats (ground beef, chicken strips) and set up your counter like a pasta bar. Serve a nice salad and some hot fresh garlic bread, and everyone will be happy. It's really quick, buy the sauces premade and just warm them up.

I dont know what the weather is like where your at, but how about a backyard BBQ. Its easy, you can make just hotdogs and hamburgers. If you're looking for something indoors then try tacos, everyone can make their own hard shell tacos just have all the ingredients set up across the table. You can make a classic roasted chicken in the oven with potatoes and carrots, maybe a nice rice (minute rice) and some mashed potatoes and then have some chicken nuggets on the side for the kids in case they dont like the roasted chicken and maybe even some mac and cheese (just use some curly noodles) the kids will think their fun and the adults will think they are more grownuppy than from a box.

Pot roast (beef chuck) with baby red potatoes, carrots, and pearl onions. Serve a Cesar salad as the first course. A warm desert is good for wintertime fare, like a cobbler.

Well, I'd hit Costco (or a similar type of store that pre-makes food) and get about 3 of their roasted chickens, cut them into quarters and serve with mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh steamed carrots with butter, brown sugar, and ginger, and green beans. Apple pie for dessert. For the kiddlings, I'd consider hot dogs with tater tots.....you'll be the hit of the neighborhood!

how about a nice pot of chili with cornbread and a caesar salad ?
you could make the chili in a crock pot (just brown the beef the night before and get everything ready. You could also throw hotdogs on for the kids and give them the option of having chili dogs.

Swiss Steak Quick and Easy
SUBMITTED BY: Helene

"My mother has been making this Swiss steak for years. It is wonderful, and can be made either on the stove top or -- when you don't have a lot of time but want a hearty meal ready when you come home -- in the crock pot. Serve over a bed of egg noodles or rice with a hunk of thick crusty bread."

Original recipe yield:

SERVINGS About scaling and conversions

INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 pounds cube steaks, pounded thin and cut into bite-size pieces
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 medium onion, chopped
1 pound mushrooms, sliced
salt and pepper to taste
1 (1.2 ounce) package brown gravy mix
2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles
DIRECTIONS
Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Dredge steak strips in flour. Working in batches, place strips in hot oil. Fry until browned on both sides. Remove to a warm platter. When all meat is browned, return meat to Dutch oven, and stir in onions, mushrooms, salt, pepper, gravy mix, and stewed tomatoes. Bring to a boil, then simmer about 30 to 45 minutes.
About 20 minutes before steak is finished, fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes; drain.
Serve Swiss steak over noodles.
Notes

Can be made in the crock pot. Just brown meat as instructions indicate, add ingredients to crock pot, and cook on Low all day.

If you can't find 'cubed steak,' just hand the butcher in your grocery store a package of round steaks and ask him to cube them for you.

Just one of my favs
