Why do you feel light headed when you get up fast?

This is due to the fact that the blood pressure in your brain decreases because of the change of elevation and the brain gets less blood and less oxygen.

If you get up slowly, the brain detects the gradual change, sends a message to the heart, the heart begins pumping harder and you don't notice anything. The sudden change doesn't give your brain/heart connection time to keep the oxygen level in the brain up.

If you are a teenager, the probability is that your heart has not yet reached full size and capacity...it will do that when you are near 20. As a teenager, I was very tall and sometimes, if I stood up suddenly, I would black out and have to hold onto the chair until my brain had enough oxygen and I'd be fine. The doc told me not to worry and sure enough, in a few years it went away.

Good luck

When you get up fast the bllod pools into the lopwer parts of the body, thus depriving the brain of adequate blood flow, which leads to light headedness

Sometimes, I think everyone does. In my case, I have something called Orthostatic Intollerance, so I feel that EVERY time I get up. It's just caused by your blood pressure not having enough time to regulate to your body's change in position.
