Flakken (veggie bacon)

"This marinated smoked tofu fries up into crisp veggie bacon! Freezing the tofu and thawing helps to improve the texture, and makes it easier to slice."

Original recipe yield:
4 servings
PREP TIME 15 Min
COOK TIME 5 Min

INGREDIENTS
1 (7.5 ounce) package smoked firm tofu, frozen and thawed
1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon water
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 dash liquid smoke flavoring (optional)
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
1 teaspoon onion powder

stir fry some veggies and tofu in a small amount of soy sauce--it's a quick and easy meal, as well as my favorite way to eat tofu. tofu is also great in chili..i just substitute tofu to the meat, or in spaghetti-- just cut up some tofu and throw it in spaghetti sauce.

one of my fav meals...

Its vegetarian stirfry, put veggies on wok (i.e carrot, onion, mushrooms, capsicum etc plus tofu), fry them in say two teaspoons of garlic, then same amount of coriander (spice comes minced in tube like the lemongrass), lemongrass, and then there is ginger. Next comes the vegetable stock, add about 100 mls, a teaspoon of soy sauce, two teaspoons of curry powder, 140 mls of coconut cream (or more if required), juice of a quarter of a lime and then some dessicated coconut for flavour. Serve with rice/noodles.

Well, tofu takes on any flavor you pair it with, so your choices are endless. Consider marinating it in soy sauce mixed with fresh ginger and chopped scallions. Cut into small cubes and saute with fresh carrots, bean sprouts, pea pods, mushrooms, and celery. Serve with brown rice pilaf. Or add it to your favorite marinara sauce for spaghetti. Good stuff!

I like to use salt/pepper, basil, and either soy sauce or soy paste (if you want a thicker sweet sauce). Then I just slowly stir this in the tofu and simmer for awhile. Then one can add things like mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, tomato, etc...
