It really doesn't affect men that much. They can get genital warts from it but that's really all they should be concerned about.

It can cause penile and anal cancer, but this is EXTREMELY rare. I've read about 1 in 100,000 are diagnosed with penile cancer a year! So, it is definitely rare. And, HPV is not always responsible for it either. Men can develop penile and anal cancer without ever having contracted HPV.

Men usually have no idea they have the virus since there is NO test for them. Men seem to usually find out they have the virus by finding out their girlfriend or wife has contracted it.

Last I heard, there was no test for men. Also no signs or symptoms appear in men. Even though it is related to the genital warts virus, men do not get any physical symptoms for HPV. They simply carry it and spread it after having sex with someone that has it. Condoms will not prevent the spread of it, it is what they call a skin to skin or contact virus. If there are warts they have an additional STD.

These people in the UK can now test for genital strains of hpv by using dna
"
We have the new Gardasil HPV Vaccine against Cervical Cancer and Genital Warts.

We can now test men and women for 35 different subtypes of HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) including high risk oncogenic subtypes. The tests use DNA and mRNA detection techniques."

So I would imagine the same testing is available in the USA,assuming youre in the USA

It generally does nothing but the warts. I have been doing alot of reading and research myself because I was just diagnosed with HPV today. In most cases guys dont even know they have it unless they have the warts. I didnt have them so I didnt know that I even had it either untill I got an abnormal pap.

Men do not typically get symptoms, so they should be tested before condom-free sex.
