Cumin is used in very few authentic Mexican recipes (some tamales, cochinita and pollo pibil..) But for some reason people from US, UK, Canada and Australia think that we use it on everything. That´s more like tex-mex or southwestern food. There are 3 Indian restaurants in Mexico City and all of them are popular. Mexicans like Indian food and, for what I´ve seen, vice-versa. We don´t use cardamon, curry leaves, acefedita, fenugreek seeds....They don´t use habanero, jalapeño, chipotle, ancho, poblano chiles. We don´t use coconut milk and they don´t use avocado. We have huitlacoche, chayote, huazontles, zapote, nopal and I am sure they have other native vegetables and fruits. Both cusines are spicy, but different and in both many recipes are cooked slowly for a long time. They use gee and we use pork fat for many traditional dishes. We have wonderful corn and wheat tortillas and they have great breads, some stuffed. Many Mexican and Indian desserts use milk as the main ingredient, but the result is very different.

If you have a week, you have plenty of time to think about it. Ask some Indians and Mexicans. Go online and research. Cook a couple of dishes. You'll have fun.
Off the top of my head, here is what I can think of:
both use cumin and cilantro a lot
making a mole sauce and making a curry sauce involves a similar process of slowly cooking the onions, tomatos and spices.
both have flat breads (tortillas, roti) which they eat with
fruits- both have lots of fruit shakes with milk or yogurt (like a licuado or a lassi), mangoes are common in both
oh and both use a lot of peppers!

Both cuisines use a lot of cumin, cilantro (cumin is the seed of the cilantro plant) and chilies. There are also similar cooking styles - samosas and empanadas are somewhat similar as they are both essentially deep-fried dumplings.

I dont think there is any similarity, except that they are both spicy. The only common ingredient being chilly. Also the tortilla bread is pretty similar to the Indian bread - roti.
