I have this cold, with this really annoying cough. I've gone to the Dr. just recently and he told me I have Ashma, I got this inhaler for it but I still keep coughing...Any suggestions how to reduce the amount of coughing that I am going through?

Drink some tea to warm your lungs and stuff. Some honey will help soothe your passages, and is also an expectorant. Also, have you tried cough medicine? Robitussin works wonders, but I swear by Tylenol cold &flu. Of course, get whatever works best for you! Finally, if you aren't opposed to alcohol, a little warm brandy will warm you up some. Reduce dairy products so you produce less phlegm, which will add to whatever is making you cough.

What kind of puffer did he give you? Did he give you a puffer with a steroid? He should have given you two puffers, Ventolin which is a reliever and relaxes your lungs and helps ease the coughing and Flovent (steroid) puffer which is like an anti-inflammatory for the airways which fill up with mucus and which is why you cough. You might even have a dry cough with asthma where your airways are just very sensitive to things like dry air or the cold etc. It's still asthma but different symptoms.

If he gave you Advair, that is both in one.

Maybe you can ask about increasing the frequency or the dose (two puffs instead of one) but ask your doctor first. Just tell him/her that it's not doing anything for you and not helping.

I've had that same problem several times.
Drink plenty of liquids. Have a water bottle with you at all times. This really helps a lot.
And take hot showers; I think the steam and moisture helps to clear up your airway passages.

Oh, yeah... don't stop using the inhaler, by the way. :-)

If the medicine was supposed to help, maybe you should go back to your doctor and make sure that there is nothing serious with the cough such as bronchitis

you should have see him again and ask why are you still coughing eventhough you're taking the medication, cause it might be that your medication is not working for you so he can prescribe you something else for your asthma.
