16 is a little old for a "themed" party. You should just plan a get together for his close friends and let them choose their "theme", if any. Most kids that age enjoy a good pool & pizza party.

Look at things he likes. What is he into? If he is really into some kind of video game and his friends are into it also, go with that theme. I don't mean to decorate in it and have the cutsie cake you might have when he was 12. I'm talking about gifts along that theme and contests for the teens playing the game. Or if he's not really into something like that, how about an adventure them? Again, not taking about decorating and cake. I'm talking about him taking a few friends to a theme park (Six Flags, a water park, etc.) or a camping/fishing trip. You don't necessarily have to have a traditional party. Get a few of his friends and do something they truly enjoy. Just make sure you base it on what your 16 year old likes (not what you think he likes.) Have fun.

If he's into females (no longer genuine shy) sounds like the appropriate time for his first boy female party. in simple terms provide them some events - ideally like pool, ping pong, video games - some reliable music and room for dancing and some munchies. they must be in a position to look after each thing else. do not crowd them by putting out the entire time yet pop in many times to fill up the snacks and do a head count number to make positive no one has snuck off for some deepest time. If he's a touch extra shy and would favor a adult men nighttime i'd advise taking them someplace they could pass pass-carting, because 16 is that utilizing age!! or maybe laser tag!! reliable success - wish you provide him an excellent sixteenth Birthday!!

I think a rain dance should be fun for 16 year olds.....you can have showers or sprinklers (on top of a pole so that it gives a shower effect) in a lawn and make the dance floor under it. With the summer approaching...it will be a good relief too. Dress code can be shorts & pajamas. And have all kinds of finger food....like burgers, french fries, vada pav, hot dogs, kababs, frankies, lots of drinks like juices, nariyal paani, aerated.....And last but not the least have very very good music so that the youngters can tap their feet for a long time!

Well, it depends on that 16 y.o. boy. If he's a manga maniac, then of course manga party would be great. If that boy is still naive or childish (rare, but not impossible) - something simple, like ... nature? It's really difficult to choose a theme without knowing that boy.

James Bond.
Then all the girls could get dressed up in fancy dresses and the guys could be really suave secret agents.
They can have their drinks out of martini glasses or champagne flutes and be all grown-uppy.
