If you ONLY have HSV2 then your girlfriend can ONLY get HSV2 from you.

If she were to give you oral sex it is possible for her to develop cold sores caused by HSV2. Cold sores are usually caused by HSV1, but can be caused by HSV2 also.

If you guys have sex (vaginal or anal) it is possible for her to develop genital herpes caused by HSV2.

And, yes, if she has either HSV1 or HSV2 of the mouth and you kiss her, you can get either one of those from her. Kissing is the most common ways cold sores are passed.

So to answer the original question - if you have hsv1 orally, whether you get obvious cold sores or not, you don't have to worry about kissing your hsv1+ gf. Her hsv1 infection won't make yours "worse" or anything like that. It doesn't get any simpler than both of you having hsv1 orally.

If you've never read the herpes handbook - give it a read - www.westoverheights.com. Also www.ashastd.org has terrific info on herpes to learn more.

I just wanted to clarify that yes you can also transmit hsv1 even when lesions are not present. You do not have to have an active cold sore present to transmit the virus. In fact even though over 60% of adults in the US have hsv1 orally - only 20-40% of them ever get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected with the virus. Hsv1 genital infections are responsible for about 60% of new genital herpes infections in the under 25 age group in the US. It's important that both partners get tested for hsv prior to becoming intimate in any way - be it oral sex or genital sex. You can not rely on an absence of symptoms as meaning an lack of infection whether it's oral herpes or genital herpes that you are wondering about.

Okay, we need to sort this stuff out. Both types of Herpes can infect either the oral or genital areas. Oral HSV2 is actually pretty rare, it's most usually HSV1 that causes cold sores, etc. HSV2 generally prefers the genital area. If your girlfriend has HSV1, and has an open sore, then you can catch it from kissing her, and she can transmit it to you through oral sex. You can transmit the HSV2 even if you do not have an active lesion at that moment. HSV1 is transmitted only from an active lesion, until it has dried up completely. Otherwise, it is not transmitted. If you have HSV1, but no open sore, you can't give it to anyone else. You can give HSV2 to somebody else, though, even if you don't have an open sore. It doesn't matter if you have oral or genital HSV2, you are still able to give it to others. If you have HSV2, and your girlfriend develops a sore on her mouth, though, the doctor should do a culture to determine which type she actually has. And if you turn up with a cold sore, it's more than likely HSV1. You can have both types of Herpes infections. Most of the living people on earth have had or been exposed to HSV1, so it's pretty common and not that big a deal.

I got identified with herpes (type 2) about five yrs ago, whilst I was still attending college and had a foolish one-night stand. I understand lots of young women say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date other men again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/nfhBo everything got better.

Not only was I able to remove all remnants of the herpes virus from my system in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This program provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

yes. if you have hsv2 then she can get it by having sex with you. if you have hsv 1 then you can give it to her by kissing her. Its in saliva, blood and other body fluids. you both can be checked for hsv 1&2 by a blood test. Just tell your physician that you want a hsv 1&2 test and they could do IgG or IgM and that helps determine whether it is an old or new exposure to the virus. Even if you have no outbreak its still possible! "i work in a doctors office." Symptoms of 1 is a fever and the cold sore. some get nausiated and they can be painful from my understanding.

NO. You will, however, give her HSV2. Both types of herpes can spread anywhere on the body where sufficient contact is made.

Alternatively, a cold sore is an outbreak of the herpes simplex virus (HSV1). It is estimated that over 90% of Americans carry the virus, but only about 30% of those have cold sore outbreaks.

Cold sore treatment options vary widely. There is prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, and home remedies for cold sores - many of which work remarkably well.

Here are some links to a site that helped me with my own cold sore problems. Since I used some of the methods outlined here, I haven't had a problem.

This is a link to the “Ultimate Cold Sore Treatments Guide” that outlines a bunch of cold sore remedies that work, both medicinal and home treatments:

This link is an entire glossary listing all of the best cold sore treatments compiled on to one web page:

Finally, this link is to the one medication that is proven to heal cold sores faster than anything else on the market:

That site is updated pretty regularly. Hope this helps!
