I heard a sprinter passed out of nowhere while he was about to finishi his lap,a basketball player passes out in the middle of the game? They were all healthy and in-shape but why does this happen? is it because his heart is highly cholesterol? or the heart wasnt trained enough for high endurance?

I wanna know this because I run track for college.

In most of cases its about a heart prooblem, mostly hypertrophy of heart ( very big heart, but the heart veassels stay the same. In the conditions like sport there is a higkh blood preasure, tachycardia etc. who lead to insuficient to oxygen in the heart ( hypertrophic heart needs more oxygen too). In other cases the reason may be a unrecognased heart congenital diseases.

It happens all the time. You look out and see someone who jogs 8 miles a day and think they much really be healthy and will probably live to be 120, but it's not true. Excercise IS good, but like everything, in moderation. If you strain your body constantly, you are straining your heart, and it could give you problems, including heart attack. Drugs may also be a reason. Someone who is pushing their body while on cocain or speed, for example, will get their heart racing at insane speeds, thus could easily induce a heart attack.

Ella,

There are many many athletes in the world. Its bound to be that a few of them have undetected congenital or rhythm heart defects.
While physical stress is healthy for most hearts, in a person with damaged muscle tissue in their heart or conduction problems, it can be fatal.

And FYI, there is a certain ignorance in the news media in regards to the usage of the term "heart attack". A heart attack is the death of heart tissue do to ischemia (lack of blood flow). When you hear of young people dying of heart attacks because of drugs or heart problems, they actually expire due to a fatal arrhythmia, such as Ventricular Fibrillation.

And as for you, don't worry about running track. Just see your GP for a yearly physical and you should be just fine.

Best Wishes

You can have heart defects that have nothing to do with cholesterol. If you have a murmur or something then stuff could happen, if your worried just go see a doctor and get checked out.
