"The regular pizza sauce is now vegan. It no longer contains beef flavorings. The sweet pizza concen-trate (sic) sauce contains Romano cheese and buttermilk. The spaghetti marinara sauce is also vegan. However, there is a meat-based marinara sauce as well."

Doesn't really answer your question; just addressing the 'I heard this from PETA, so it's true' above.
As for said question:

PDF file of their ingredients. (For Canada, anyway.) No. Ask them to use a cleaner pan next time?
Interesting how the 'beef' and 'pork' 'toppings' both have soy...

It may taste that way because of cross-contamination (many restaurants are not very clean.)
Or it may taste that way because Pizza Hut uses meat in it's red-sauce. I'm not sure if the meat in the sauce would make the crust taste different, but it would make the overall pizza taste different. However, their sauce is not suitable for vegetarians.
PETA's list of dining out shares that Pizza Hut is not veg friendly. I don't know How you feel about Papa John's, but they are ok to eat. If you don't put cheese on it, you can have a vegan pizza.

Having worked at Pizza Hut I can tell you no it is not bacon grease. And they do not use meat in the red sauce. The oil is vegetable oil and the red sauce is just a mixture of tomato products and spices.

Its vegetable oil. Pan pizza pans are squirted with oil to cover the bottom so the pizza 'fries' which gives you the great taste.

No, they don't use bacon grease. But if you have doubts about they are other choices. But Pizza Hut is fine.

Why would they use bacon grease? It is pretty expensive, and would mean that neither vegetarians nor Jews could eat it.
