Air a homeade game show. In the show, your associates are the contestants. Here is what you need:
A video camera with cameraman or tri-pod
a giant tub of bubble gum from a wholesale store
a list of "fun facts" about your boss.
A week before the party, have your boss/bosses fill out a questionaire about him/herself; what was their first job, how many siblings, favorite band, etc. Keep the questions bland, nothing TOO personal-you will have to be the judge of what would fly with your boss. You'll need atleast 30 or 40 questions. Keep the results of the questionaire to yourself.
After you have the questionaire completed, schedule a time for when ALL of the contestants can be in the same room, around a table. Set up the video camera to film all of you and put the gum on the table. You, since you have the questionaire, will be the game show host, the others, the contestants. So you begin by asking the contestants the questions- every time one of the contestants gets one wrong, they have to chew a piece of gum. The gum stays in their mouth-subsequent wrong questions mean more gum is added. It gets really hard for people to talk with all the gum in their mouth. It's very funny to watch on film later.
On the night of the party, set up your food buffet, drinks, etc, however you'd like. Then set up your AV equiptment. Air your premier of your game show as the main event. Everyone will enjoy laughing at themselves, especially the boss/bosses. You could even serve pop corn and roll out red paper at the entrance of the party (the big rolls of colored paper that they sell at the education store) so it looks like the "stars" are getting red carpet treatment. Have fun!

Depends what kind of party it is...is it for a birthday, someone's farwell party, what?
Usually at my old job our office parties consisted of potlucks and musical chairs.
We would all sign up to bring a different dish, main course, salads, salsas, drinks, desserts.
We would play musical chairs a lot, its very fun watching your coworkers fall off chairs. We had a lot of baby showers so we played a lot of baby shower bingo, drawing the baby over your head, unscrambling word lists, things like that.
We always decorated though, we always had balloons and streamers and tableclothes and centerpieces, hey, it was our time to enjoy at work so we wanted it to look special.

Ya know what? Our most successful office parties were potlucks. If you want to theme your party, have people bring their best recipe (Mexican theme, Italian theme, etc.) I noticed that at every one of these kind of gatherings, everyone broke the ice by trading recipes. Not very sophisticated, but fun.

You could do a beach theme and use (new) sand pails to put fruit salad in, etc., and use the sand shovels for spoons. You can use a kids blow up pool, fill it with ice and put drinks in it...like a cooler. Have fun!
