You must be aware that a coronary bypass, though common nowadays, still remains a major surgical intervention in the world. Also it is often a life saving/ life prolonging proceedure.
Different patients react differently to it postoperatively and some may have prolonged musculoskelletal pain or/and mild reaction to medication eg . headaches due to nitrates etc.
The best advice is for your Dad to discuss everything with his doctors who will surely have the answers as we are trained for that. Most people ,with time , regain their original mood and strength.
Best of luck

I had triple bypass about 12 years ago when I was 57 years old and didn't experience any problems afterwards. There wasn't any heart damage before my bypass which isn't always the case. My wife had stints put in a clogged coronary artery recently and afterward they had her go to physical therapy which I understand is the standard procedure now. They have nurses monitoring the patients vital signs as they perform physical exercises so they can report to the doctor any problems they observe or expressed by the patient. I'm sure it helps the doctor to determine the need for medication adjustments or need for additional tests, etc. I hope you find some information that helps..

I had triple by pass when I was 48, I was working at the time and went back to work after 3 weeks. All was good with no pains or problems until I got an aorta aneurysm when I was 62 , the by pass grafts had also began blocking off again so they had to re do the triple bypass to get me fit enough to re pair the aneurysm . I had the aneurysm repaired next year . I was then 63, Now I am 72 and the grafts are blocking off again but I can still function fairly normal although I live life in the slow lane and enjoy my grandchildren growing up. So there it is, we are all different but I think your father has nothing to worry about and a positive outlook helps enormously. Cheers Pete

hi gal,
well anyhting to predict about ur dad's health, we must know his condition, through med check up...what is heart condition,?
wht is his ejection fraction?
how are the vessels, now after the bypass.?
was it 2 vessel disease or 3 vessel one?
his conditon can be assessed by few investigation like ECG, ECHO Cardiogram. etc..
but as u said that he got surgery done 6 months back , if he doesn't have any sypmtoms, it means he is well.
better to have check up to assess his condition!
with regards,
dr.jagan

Most patients don't have all these difficulties after bypass. Perhaps he could meet with his primary care doctor and discuss his difficulties. Could he be depressed? Has he done cardiac rehabilitation? If not, he should. Now!!
