Two days ago, my Dad's doctors found that a couple of his arteries were blocked. They performed a Stent on his right femoral artery. What are the precautionary steps my Dad need to take regarding movements like working around the house now, and in the near future? Thank you all so much.

I usually just tell my patients not to lift greater than 10# or drive for 48 hours. Then progress as tolerated. And he should join a cardiac rehab program, if he hasn't been referred already.

After an angio seal, keep the leg straight for 2-3 hours. For the next 24 hours, be a couch potato. Don't do a lot of walking around or any heavy lifting. The hole in the artery should be healed by 24 hours, so after that, anything goes.

During the first 24 hours, if he has any pain at the site, if a bump develops, or if he starts bleeding, CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY.
