Heart attack: The death of heart muscle due to the loss of blood supply. The loss of blood supply is usually caused by a complete blockage of a coronary artery, one of the arteries that supplies blood to the heart muscle. Death of the heart muscle, in turn, causes chest pain and electrical instability of the heart muscle tissue.

The electrical instability of the heart causes ventricular fibrillation (chaotic electrical disturbances affecting the ventricles, the lower chambers of the heart). Orderly transmission of electrical signals in the heart is important for the regular beating (and the efficient pumping) of the heart. A heart undergoing ventricular fibrillation simply quivers and can not pump or deliver oxygenated blood to the brain. Permanent brain damage and death can occur unless oxygenated blood flow is restored within five minutes.

A heart attack happens when your coronary arteries are blocked with a substance called plaque,or cholesterol. This happens from eating greasy foods or those with high calories, and buildups of stress which take over your valves or arteries.Overall,a heart attack is when your blood and oxygen cannot get through your heart muscle due to a buildup or more commonly known as a blockage.

Heart attack occurs when arteriosclerosis occurs. The blood vessel of the heart or the coronary branches are hardened, making transportation of blood hard. Atherosclerosis is the accumulation of fats, causing the width of the blood vessel to be effectively reduced. This causes the heart to pump harder and faster, thus causing heart attack.

it is when the blood flow gets blocked from getting to the heart to receive oxygen, sometimes it will result in damage to the heart, but it also can kill you, just imagine your car engine not getting any oil.. what is going to happen? it will lock up on you. so consider your heart as your engine for your body if it doesn't start, you don't go anywhere.

You can check many web sites for this. But, essentially, it's when the heart suffers damage from lack of blood/oxygen supply from either heart disease (arteriosclerosis) , heart arrythmia (bad rhythm) vaso=spasm; clots; or something that makes the heart stop beating(trauma, shock) Hope this helps. web md, heartsite.com
