Ignore the whole tea tree thing... Headlice are a pain. It takes about two week. Get the strongest shampoo you can and make sure every family member's hair is saturated in this stuff. Do it at least 3 times. The weeks following use a lot of conditioner on wet hair and comb with the nit comb for hours on end... I remember coz my mum used to do this to me! And if any of your kids have long hair put it in a bun and save yourself this hassle lol

Check out the above site, it gives loads of great information.

Nits were a big problem in my girl's school last year and the town!. I just used to put on loads and loads of conditioner and comb and comb and comb! The trouble is if some parents don't treat everyone just gets re-infected again.
Also, don't plait your childrens hair.. I was told by the 'nit nurse' that as the hair is so taut it makes it easier for them to climb up the hair.

Natural' Remedies - the facts:
Bug busting, wet combing, aromatherapy oils, herbal shampoos are all treatment options. However many of their claims are not supported by published evidence.

Wet Combing:
While wet combing is a successful means of detecting head lice, many experts do not advocate this method as an effective treatment. There is no conclusive evidence to prove that it successfully controls infections in the community. Wet combing as a claimed method of treatment can also be extremely time consuming, as it relies on someone applying conditioner and spending half an hour on every head in the family, every third or fourth day, for at least two weeks, in an attempt to remove the lice with a comb.

Electric Combs:
Battery-operated combs are intended for use on clean, dry hair and claim to 'stun' the lice. Again, there is no conclusive evidence to support this method.

Essential Oils:
While a very popular treatment option, according to The Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin Review, essential oils have no conclusive evidence to support their effectiveness in treating head lice1. There are also no regulatory standards for their use.

Dr Robert Aston, a communicable disease expert and co-author of the Public Health Medicine Environmental Group's National Guidance on managing head lice, comments:

"In recent years there has been an increasing public view that 'natural' treatments are safer and more effective than orthodox medicines. The insecticides in modern head louse preparations have an excellent safety record over decades and are effective when used correctly. Many so called 'natural' remedies, such as essential oils, are not only toxic, but have no reliable scientific evidence to support their claimed efficacy."

Bet your hairs long. Get it cut short keep shampooing and coming. Best thing of all is just coming and killing daily till there gone. Both out daughters went through a period of head louse which was passed to there mum. I never got any as my hair short. The girls had the shampoo treatment several times but they are not very good the lice are almost resistant to them now. So we resorted to old fashioned way combing and killing what you see. The lice pop when you kill them no pop there not dead. Wife bone combed both the girls and i did the wife daily for a week. This got rid of them. You then need to keep monitoring and try and identify where there catching them from. Probably a close friend or other member of the family. It was in out case both the cousins had them and were not aware. Theve all been clean now for a couple of years but we still keep check every couple of weeks.

Tea Tree Oil. It's natural and will do no harm, unlike some of the other highly toxic preparations on the market. Get a tooth comb, apply the oil, and with patience, you can comb all the little horrors out. Ugh, they're ghastly things aren't they.

Every time you wash the hair apply conditioner and comb through with a nit comb. Then apply a few drops of tea tree oil on the neck, at the bottom of the hairline. This works for a friend of mine. so good luck

i had the same problem and was told by a pharmacist in America that putting Vaseline on dry hair and putting a shower cap on their head leaving overnight and then washing it off, takes a while to come out but it smothers the lice and the eggs. It worked for us.

use one of them fine tooth combs every night try quellada, full marks or lyclear. if these dont work you can get carylderm with a prescription. apparently olive oil smothers the lice if you put enough on for long enough but i dont think it has any effect on the eggs(nits) try licenders as well
