im 16 years old, and i play sports about 5 hours a week.. im going to see a doctor soon, i'd just like to know what it could be.. It does a very notable cracking sound. someone told me it could be a lack of fluid around the knee joint, but this usually occurs in old people.. any ideas ??

you could have a lack of synovial fluid, in your knee joint
(causing stiffness and pain )
you may have early arthritis (cartilage wear)
could be a slipped cartilage ( semi lunarcartilage )
strained cruciate ligament s

The knee is the largest joint in your body ,
it takes your body weight
and has much free movement ,

It is fairly easy, to get a sports injury in the knee joint.
if not attended promptly, can develop into a chronic problem .

so i am pleased you are going to the doctor
You may need an x-ray or scan, to see any damage ,
maybe physiotherapy ,to ease the joint .
and pain control and
advice on management of your knee problem

most people get that from old age.
You can try taking calcium and magnesium
hylaronic acid from Wal Mart might work better though

or you could take all three
you need to take magnesium with calcium though so you don't get spurs or stones
