the emulsion that has been painted over artex in the bathroom is beginning to peel of - probably the artex wasn't sealed before applying the emulsion - any thoughts on how to remove the paint? - or would it be simpler to seal the whole lot and then re-paint over the sealant. removeing the artex not really an option - too messy, and possibilities of asbestos...
cheers for any advices

This is from Wikipedia I also posted their link below.

"Artex Limited have now introduced a purpose made product that can be applied to Smooth over Artex, the product comes as a DIY ready mix for small jobs or a powdered format to be used by tradesmen."

You can also cover with faux tin ceiling tiles or bead board and keep the motif of the decor. If a porous material is to be used like ceiling tile make sure to seal them with ceramic tile spray to keep moisture out. I used faux tin tiles from Lowes and sealed them with "Stand and Seal" tile sealer 5 years ago and they still look brand new. In other parts of the house I used bead board to cover cracked and pealing plaster and put crown moulding at the edges because you have to leave a 1/4" gap from edge to wall otherwise the bead board will bow when it expands. I used liquid nails and brads to attach. Same thing in the bathroom.

You will be quicker and easier having a new ceiling, and it will look better, get a plasterer in.
