It's only proper for them to do so on a date. Not for just friends, and not all time.

No.

But it's hard to decide who should pick it up. You could say that if the location was the girl's choice, she can pick it up. And if it was the guy's choice, he can pick it up. But then you have technicalities such as "well, the guy asked where I wanted to go and I said... so why is it my responsibility?"

Too much of a headache...

Here's my suggestion.. and I think it's the closest thing to proper ettiquette, if I remember Miss Manners correctly...

Both the man and the woman carry enough money to take care of themselves for the evening. This includes transportation, food, movie, etc. When the bills come, BOTH offer to pay. If person A insists on paying, person B should double check with "Are you sure?". If person A still insists, then person B should graciously accept this form of "defeat" and let Person A pay.

However, if person B doesn't say "Are you sure" and instead holds THEIR ground, then person A should let them pay at least their half.

Not necessarily. The man should pay more times on average but it is always nice when the lady picks up a bill every once in a while.

Not really. I guess it just depends on what the female is like that you are with. Im female (obviously) and I always grab for the bill so I can offer my share. But on the other hand it may seem rude if you leave the bill sitting there for the female. I think alot of females these days will offer to pay for their share - just so the male can say " no its ok, my shout".....lol

not necessarily,it depends if its a first date or going out with someone new, of course the men should pick up the bill that's just common courtesy, i guess. but with friends i guess its open for discussion who pays the bills, right?but if the guy is well off, meaning rich (i would pay the bill, fast)no question about it....

He doesn't always have to pick up the bill, but he should NEVER allow her to pay for his! Either pick up the whole thing or go dutch, but dutch should be worked out and expected ahead of time if you ever want to see her again!

Not necessarily. It's nice if he is prepared to pick up the bill, but the girl should at least offer to pay half, get the tip, or treat next time.

Yea pretty much, but, I'm not like most girls. I will pick up the tab on occasion because I care to. I was raised in a very generous, giving family so that is just the nature of me.
