I have tried in the past but end up losing a lot of the insides as the skin is so hard to remove. I have heard boiling it is the answer, could someone help?

Cut it in half and persevere! if it is ripe enough the skin should come away from the edge of the fruit.

First of all you must be sure the avocado is ripe. A too fresh avocado will not peel well. The avocado must have a slight soft feel to it. Next, with a sharp knife cut through the fruit along its long axis to the stone and cut all the way around. Give the fruit a twist and the two haves should separate. Now, if the fruit is ripe you should be able to gently a) remove the skin, or 2) scoop out the meat.

If the skin is not coming off easily and you are losing the flesh it would suggest that the avocado is not yet ripe enough.

Next time wait until it is quite soft enough to make a slight indentation in the flesh. Cut in half lengthways remove the stone and then using a peeler (like you would peel carrots or potatoes).

You might need to do this with the fruit lying cut side down.

I have not heard of the boiling trick - but I would have thought that would make a horrible mess.

A ripe avocado should peel off easily. That's how we do it back home where we had a few of avocado trees. Cut them in quarters. Hold the skin from the top and peel it all the way down. Tip is you can ripen it by placing it in a bag of rice.

First remove the stem. Use a sharp knife. Be careful!

Slice the avocado in half by turning the fruit on the knife blade.

Twist the avocado to separate into halves. Use a spoon to remove the pit. Scoop the pulp out with the spoon.

If the skin is too hard to remove then the fruit is not ripe yet. Press the skin with your thumb, if you can push it in slightly the fruit will be ready. Cut around the large stone, twist fruit. Take out stone. I usually cut mine again so I have 4 pieces. Skin should come off easy if the avocado is RIPE.

Okay you are going about this all wrong. You poor thing. I could imagine your frustration trying to peel that avacado. Just cut the avacado in half, remove the pit and scoop out the insides with a spoon. If you run the spoon along the inside edges you can even scoop out the inside in one peice. it is easy and you will feel like a fool when you try this. I know I have years ago. good luck

Avocados are not peeled. Slice the avocado in half (cutting around the seed), separate the two halves, then using a spoon, work your way around and gently separate the meat from the skin. If the avocado is ripe, you should not have any problems doing this.

Like others noted, the avocado needs to be very ripe-- dark and somewhat soft. I cut 'em pole to pole also, but since I let them get very ripe, I don't even have to mess with scooping. I kinda just squeeze out the stuff from each half, squeezing from the backside, the skin of course.

Your avocado was'nt ripe.
Only the dark (purplish-black) ones are ready to eat.

Just piercing the skin, slice from end to end. (in quarters)
Gently pluck the skin up with knife and pull back. (quite easy)
After sliced open, the seed will easily pull out of ripe avocado.
