He needs to take the medication regularily to have any effect and it might take a couple of weeks. And he'll need to keep taking them to keep the Bp down. Diuretics are desgned to get rid of excess fluid in the body so yes it makes you wee more. He should still remember to drink enough to avoid dehydration. Also exercise, avoiding stress, low fat diet, quitting smoking and cutting down alcohol and caffein will help to keep the blood pressure low. Good luck to your friend!

It takes a few weeks to see the advantage of a diuretic...I would not increase the dose this soon...Of course weeing is the name of the game to get the salts, and crap out of the body...Tell your friend to cut his salt intake out, too, but can just do the salt that comes with the product...He may need other blood pressure tablets to get at the right dosage, too...I take a diuretic, and a beta blocker for my blood pressure, and it keeps me under control...Please follow your doctors' advice, as this is a precurser to heart trouble...

The whole point of diuretic tablets is that they make you pee a lot. Clearly his GP thinks that his high blood pressure is to do with his kidneys. It will take at least 5 days for his kidneys to start responding properly. I would say that this time next week his blood pressure will have gone down noticeably and he can re-visit his GP for further guidance. His GP will have told him how long he feels he should be taking them for. Diuretics aren't usually a long term solution, it would depend on his situation.

It takes time. He shouldn't exceed what is prescribed. If B/P isn't down in a couple weeks then he should contact his Dr. Dr. may increase his med, or add another that makes the first one work better. He is urinating more as that is what a diuretic is for. It is also prescribed for edema which is commonly found in those with high B/P or CHF (congestive heart failure)

He needs to continue on them for the rest of his life. Blood pressure doesn't lower overnight. It takes a few days.
He is weeing a lot because the tablets are taking the pressure off his kidneys.
He must go and see a doctor. Blood pressure is potentially life threatening.
