The reasons are simple, ignorance, malice, anger, pain, denial, past abuse, drugs and alcohol, religion, you name it. it does not take much for a bully to hurt a child.

Well I don't abuse my child, BUT I do discipline my child because they need to learn whats wrong and whats right and to respect their parents etc. But as far as the parents in the news papers that put their children in microwaves and drown them Because the baby cries that's some F**ked up stuff. I don't even know where to begin. Parents today just have issues, serious ones.
I'd say if u cant handle being a parent then don't have a child. That goes for women and men....

Because some know they can get by with it. CPS, or DCFS which ever you call it, Do not do enough or anything to parents that abuse their kids.
Even after being reported over and over. I am mandated by the state to report abuse, and I do, however >>>>>>> pisses you off when you know they arent going to do anything .
Most of them if they get a report of a filthy home, go to the home, give the parents so many days to clean up before they even see it the first time. and then they dont go back unless they get another report. So you know if they were living in the dirty home they were not going to maintain the cleanliness, that would take EFFORT.

People abuse thier kids for many reasons and it is rarely planned. Many times drugs & alcohol are involved, in other cases it is how the parents were treated as children and they dont see it as being wrong. In cases of sexual abuse the "perp" was almost always molested themselves as a child and domestic violence cases run the same pattern. Many times (shaken babies) parents just loose thier temper and control for a few seconds but thats all it takes.

Child abuse is a curse on our beautiful World. Nobody knows when it can be abolished totally. We should make all efforts to abolish it by various means. First of all punishment should be very very strong and fast. Greed and Lust are the main culprits in someones mind. Now-a-days we find so many such misdeeds being telecast everyday. So shameful.

Any sort of abuse according to me is out of frustration and the feeling of superiority. Children as u said are innocent but also mentally vulnerable and physically unable to defend themselves. Hence just because the aggressor knows that, they use their advantages to the poor child's disadvantage. Sad but true and similar to how many animals are treated.. Many people abuse children out of as I said frustration, others to feel superior and hence control children.. Mostly are uneducated as to how to properly discipline children but some horrifically do it for money and pleasure... !!!
To add I would suggest 'to-be-parents' and 'parents/caregivers' plus teachers have some counselling opportunities where they learn how to handle children at various stages of their lives or educate themselves with related books.
A frustrated person should get psychiatric help or be made to .. Same for those who do it just to feel superior!!
While those shameless...urrrghhhh people who do it for monetary gain should be put behind bars and put thru the same abuse!!!

Because some people just have no idea how to control their tempers and take things out on their children. Its a horrible thing, but they are just people that were never taught right, or maybe they were abused themselves.

Because some people are just bad parents with some kinda anger management problem, and the kid's most likely gonna be right there and can't really do much about it, so * WHAM! * They unwillingly get to be the moron's new punching bag.

Sadly, because it is in a human being's nature to be abusive --- to children, adults and animals. It is something that will never change. Centuries of "civilization" has not altered that fact.
A human being is capable of the highest and the lowest, and everyone is capable of both.
