I want to preview an episode of lost i am downloading from limewire to make sure it's the right one, but it opens up the default player, which is media player, but it wont play the file!

right click your file click on "open with >choose program
click on the divx player then tick the box always open with this
click on Apply & ok

Right click on any .avi file,click on properties.It will be shown on properties which program the file opens with.it will be media player.Click change.A list of programs will appear.If divx is in that list , select it and click ok.If its not in the list,click browse and select the folder in which divx is installed and select divx and click open then click ok.Now div x is the default player for avi files
OR
Open my computer,on the explorer window click tools ,then click folder options,then select file types,then select avi file.On the details for avi files,click change and as said above, select divx.

left click on the "START" button (the green button in the lower left hand corner of the screen - not a button on the keyboard hehehe)

left click on "control panel"

left click "switch to classic view" (if it says "switch to category view" - you've already got the correct view)

double left click on the "folder options" icon

left click on the "files type" tab

scroll down the list until you see where it says "AVI"

click on the "change" button and then you'll have to browse to your Divx program

you're good to go....

right click on a media file::scroll down and click on"Open with...."choose the program you want to use as default,highlight it then go down and check the box that says::Always use this program for this kind of file"then press apply.
