I don't get it - the sound works but no video plays! and windows media player works for everything else - music films etc. Is there any way I can get the video to work too? and there's nothing wrong with the downloaded files as I know friends who have downloaded the same files and they can play them on theirs. Any help appreciated!

It sounds like you need to get the right CODEC for the file you are trying to play. Try downloading a DIVX player or CODEC from www.divx.com

This seems to be happening quite often with windows media player, it may be an issue with DRM. Try playing the videos in powerdvd and also divx . I have a friend who can only watch downloaded movies in divx - anything else only shows picture or plays sound

i'm having a similar subject different than i'm getting the video yet no sound... in the adventure that your making use of vista the records are (.wma) video report (.wmv) and it won't play my digicam records (.AVI) properly with sound I recommend. not have been given around to downloading codec's yet because of the fact my subject is audio (which nonetheless use codec's) however the main subject for video would be taken care of with a codec p.c..... attempt this internet site and good good fortune..

You may not have the required codec's for that particular file.

Try installing a codec pack or better yet, download vlc player. It will play almost anything! I do not like to intall codec packs, so I am using vlc.

Hope this helps.

It will if you open your media player. Right click on it. Choose options. Select file types. Select all file types and apply. It should work then.
