Advanced driving, or what.......

I think it's great. I can't speak for all departments, but generally they are trained in extreme driving techniques, including taking turns at extremely high speed, safe driving techniques in pursuits, and extreme vehicle dynamics control, including maintaining control during skids and spins. Generally, if you can't drive extremely well, you can't pass the academy.
Not all cops are equal, and certainly they are prone to pushing their driving to its limit in a way that is often unsafe, but if you give me the average citizen at 90 mph and a cop at 90 mph, I'd rather be driving next to the cop.

Cops received very advanced drivers education. On the whole they are better drivers than civilians.
