As far as I know you can't with windows But you can get a free copy of ubuntu Linux on the web or have them send you free Cd's You can run the live CD in your computer without a hard drive installed! Work's great!

you can run applications off of removeable media yes ... the problem is its a slow interface ... even with usb ... so applications are feasible .. an operating system isnt really because of the speed for 1 .. and for 2 the boot would have to be set in the bios for every machine ...

The space required for and OS and all of your applications is enormous. That is why every software you buy is loaded on its original disc. Keeps them safe as well from "accidents' or theft. Or???????????
