i use nero it burns cue files (these are for cd disc) and can convert avi into dvd but this takes over an hour and thats best you are going to get.
personally i have a divx decoder on my dvd player at home so it plays avi's cheapest one can be as little as £33 it fits 4 or 5 films onto a disc and burns in minutes (using the divx player available from www.divx.com free)

Hi,
A good burning software you should try is Ashampoo. It's one of the best free options available. Free download here: http://bit.ly/1sW2eiD

Nero is ok, but it can't deal with copyrights. So say you want to make a personal back-up of a copyrighted disc. Have a look on line for 1Click DVD copy. It is also worth looking at AnyDVD as this will take any region codes.
