So I decided to look for alternative, only, Microsoft word is so bloody expensive and I found this Open office thing. I'm useless with computers in general so I would appreciate some advice...

Open Office is an excellent program ... and even better ... its FREE!!! It can be found and downloaded from the following link ... http://www.openoffice.org/. It can be set up to be MS Office compatible and doesn't take up half the disk space of MS's bloat ware. Try it ... you'll be surprised at just how good it is.

That sucks. Microsoft Office is the real deal. There's a reason why it's the ultimate around here. Have you seen Office 2007? It's the bomb. Go check it out for yourself. OpenOffice is adequate, but for the real deal, spruge yourself for MS Office, it's what everybody else has.

DON'T buy it, it's absolutely free to download!!!

It's an excellent alternative to MS Office and you get the whole suite, not just word processing but spreadsheets, database, etc. Yes, compatible with the MS equivalents.

Open office is good and it is compatible, I have it at work, and MS office at home, so I know. It is a lot cheaper.
Go for it.

Yes, I put Open Office on my laptop and you get it for free. Don't pay the scalpers on ebay. They just download it and burn it to cds.

OpenOffice really IS for free - you can download it from it's website and you don't have to pay a penny for it. My nephew is one of the developers of the OpenOffice softwares.
