Any relationship which is based on unselfish designs, and/or any relationship that is based on mutual reciprocity is the best .No relationship will last if it is based on exploitation of any kind.You can apply this yardstick in all kinds of relationship whether between family members, friends, husband-wife, father-son, mother-son/daughter, employer-employee etc.

I agree with all those who have answered mother-child. This one relationship not only gives birth to a new life but also to many other relationships. A relationship , the base of which is a dream, a desire, a selfless act on the part of a woman. Not just that, she also endangers her life.
But besides that I feel a relationship is best where there is enough space for each person to speak their mind w/o hurting other .

An open, honest one where each shows respect to one another and values the differences as well as treasuring what there is in common.
Good communication, clear expression of expectations, patience, forgiveness and honesty will build a relationship up very well.
You don't need to have everything in common, but what is different about you both should be respected. If you disagree, do so with respect and maturity. Don't forget to resolve the problem as soon as you can. Maintain the privacy of your relationship. It's no one's business what is going on with you. A relationship where that person is your best friend, someone that you are very comfortable with. Someone who turns you on and goes out of their way to please you, and you do the same for them. Someone who you can just hang with and have a good time doing the simple things, and going out is equally as enjoyable. A relationship where you are equals. You are an equal match to one another...give and take. There is nobody superior or nobody being the dominant one.

personally speaking while i love my frnds and enjoy a lot but i think my realtionship with my sisters(including cousins) is uncomparable there is a whole festival each yr in hindu rituals just dedicated to this realtionship
furtheremore its the only relationship were opposite sexes come so close and understand each other like they were one i m not sure if u can get it but just the love i share with them is amazing and i feel that no relationship can match the bond factor that is between a bro and a sis
