Some people gargle with very salty water. A sore throat that lasts for more than a day or two should probably warant a doctor's visit.

I would say use hot water, with salt. Salt heals abrasions, and that's what a sore throat is. You could also try some hot tea with honey and lemon in it. Hope you get to feeling better.

Put a tablespoon or so into a small glass & add the juice of a lemon---no water---then just heat it & eat by the spoonful.
Also drink hot lemonade {home made if possible}, eating plain warmed honey is also good for it.

Take a glass of warm water.
Add a spoon of salt.
Take a mouthful of it.
Look at the ceiling and gargle such that the salte warm water rinses your throat thoroghly.
Repeat several times.

You could suck on whole cloves, they cause a numbing sensation and as you swallow, your clovey saliva may help numb your throat.
