and how bad they are, straight after their tests.
One of them was driving a huge BMW doing wheel spins etc, another didnt know how to do dip and full beam!
Ref insurance.. why dont we restrict the insurance levels available to these new drivers?
Like let them have to a group 5 or something, just to get them used to the road?
It may help them learn a few things? and then go to a bigger fatser car??

Excellent question! before some time, AAA also have raised this questions and gave statistics about teen crash.

But I like teen drivers. As a driving Instructor, I have noticed they are the best drivers, (with exception of some). They are most obidient drivers, following all the rules.

They get in to trouble, because of experienced drivers, who doest not care for rules, as they have driven on roads for longer period of time, they behave like they own the road. They are the one who put Teens in trouble. They do sudden movements, changing lanes without proper signaling, tailgating, turning etc, where teen as a result of less experience to respond to these rude behaviour, gets in to trouble and rear-end them.

There is a fantastic program from New Jersey State, which is called GDL. Graduate Driving License.

At the age of 16, Student can apply for a permit after passing a written test from their high school which is Driver's education.

They have to complete Six hours behind the wheel driving instructions with a Licensed Driving School.

After they complete their six hours behind the wheel with driving school, they can drive with their family members for six months or 17th birthday, whichever comes later.

Now this is a beauty of this programm. Once they start driving with family members, family members will make the kid drive properly, not aggrassively, not getting into road rage and let them know about the family car, which they own. or six months they have been hamered for good habits, obviously they will develope good habits.

But again there is a exception to all the rules. Group behaviour is different than a individual.

So in GDL programm, NJDMV gives them restricted license for one year, where they can drive only with one passenger and not during 12 to 5 am midnight hours.

Still like I said excption to all the cases, you will find some kids, who does not know what to do or never cared by the family.

For those exceptional cases, you do not want to punish all the kids by raising their insurance.

I am totally against driving in a group at a young age. That changes most kids behaviour.

the thing is its only few young drivers who ruin it for the rest of them. its not fair on the other young drivers who are good drivers.
as it is if you are under 25 then the insurance is sky high.
