if so, can you easily get burned? or do you have to be kind of retarded (or 4 years old). My hair is not very long, so maybe I could get burned easier trying to use it on my hair?

I have a scar to prove you can. I layed my arm on one when I was 4 years old.

UPDATE: I had it on my skin for about 4 seconds before I felt it -- by that time it was too late. It would probably not happen to an adult (unless you're very clumsy).

Yes ! And depending on the type of iron (some are hotter than others like the professional ones I used in salons) it can be extremely painful and pretty bad!

my ceramic chi gets to 450 degrees. Darn right you can get burned! In fact I have a scar on my thumb from dropping my iron and STUPIDLY trying to catch it. I've been in a rush and clamped down on my ears. HA

Yes you can,

And i don't believe using the term 'Retarded' is acceptable.

I've been burnt several times while straightening my hair, and have rather nasty burns!

Just be carefull!

Absolutely. It's hot enough to hurt when you touch it. Even at a lower temperature, prolonged contact with one could easily burn.
