For one, it depends on what you want to use it for, and how much money you're willing to spend.

Some nice hardtails frames can go from 150 to 1,000 bucks (aluminium) or up to 2,000 if you want Ti (well, maybe between 1,400 to however much you want to spend.

Full suspension frames are along 600 to 3,000 bucks (and some are above 4,000 bucks).

Finding 'The Best' will be impossible, since each rider has it's own idea on what the best is. Also, it depends on what you want to use your bike.

Some great builders out there (not cheap) are Titus, Turner, Ellsworth, Santa Cruz, Intense, Seven, Yeti, Ventana, Nicolai, Knolly bikes.

Some good but not as good, Specialized, Cannondale, Rocky Mountain (not sure on them, maybe they're higher, not sure), Giant, Merida, Scott USA, Iron Horse (some of they're bikes are pretty good, some are very entry level), Ibis, Banshee and Ibex.

Specialized, KHS, and Giant all make excellent MTB frames... of course the "best" is just personal opinion...

You could go with a custom built frame, and there are many companies out there, but be prepared to pay a lot of money.
