you should have various sizes of bandages, medical tape, gauze pads, an ace bandage, first aid cream, some kind of antiseptic, butterfly bandages, a pain reliever, burn cream, sterile eye wash, an emergency blanket for wrapping a victim if they fall into shock, probably an antihistamine, and any special medications you or a family member might need. It's probably a good idea to include medical scissors and a razor blade. It's also important to check the kit periodically and replace any expired medications and/or depleted items.

You might also include things you might not always think of like antacid, several bottles of spring water, matches, and water purification tablets.

If you are preparing a first aid kit for something like hiking/biking/rafting trip, you would want to make it smaller. Probably just include the first 10 items or so.

band-aids, guaze, perioxide, tape, scissors, some type of neosporin/bacitracin, clean hand towels, gloves, calomine lotion, tweezers and from there it's up to what you to determine. You may have to make adjustments based on what your using it for like hiking or on the job. All of these things should be kept in a first aid or tackle like box in a universal spot. Big companies even a difibulator in theirs just in case of an heart attack.

You need a container to handle the items, whether it's a box or bag. Band aids, gauze, gloves, anti-septics (Neosporin, etc)
