Ive sort of studied Church History a while ago and this is something I always wondered about. Couldnt find any links though. Anyone give me any?

Catholicism is a delicious cake, beautifully decorated. Puritans wanted to throw out the whole cake. The compromise was to gut the cake and just keep some of the frosting. That is why some people think there is little difference between Catholicism and Anglicanism -- they can look similar on the outside, but inside Catholicism is real cake, while inside Anglicanism is nothing.

You might find information during the reign of Henry 8th. Seems he wanted a divorce and Rome refused to allow it. He realized he could not just keep beheading women.
