If you bought a new car, any defects should be covered under the manufacturers warranty. So take it back to the dealer where you purchased it. If you don't want to take it back to the original dealer, you can take it to another same make dealer, and they can fix it. But if you aren't their customer, it may take longer because they usually take their customers first.
It also depends on the "defect". If you are talking about a mechanical defect, keep a record of all the repairs regarding that particular problem. Lemon laws will protect you if it is an ongoing problem, and keeps happening for a long period of time and you have done everything you could to fix it. If it is unfixable, the manufacturer may replace the vehicle. Basically the vehicle has to be in a dealerships service department for so many days, and undriveable , or "out of service" for so many days. This event has to happen the required amount of times before the manufacturer will consider it a "lemon" and replace it for you. Lemon laws differ from state to state, so check with your state regarding what the proceedures are, and what the requirements are for the Lemon Law to help you. There is usually a maximum amount of mileage you have driven the car to be covered under the lemon laws.
If it is a minor defect, that has nothing to do with the drivability of the vehicle, or safety of the vehicle, the original factory warranty will take care of it.
Don't go into the dealer all hot headed and angry- it probably isn't their fault anyway. But be firm and reasonable with your demands. They probably want to keep you as a customer and will fix the problem. If the service department is not cooperative, speak to the service dept manager, then the sales manager and work your way up. Most General Managers or owners will be more helpful knowing you have taken the time, and the steps before going to them for help. Your results will probably be more favorable if you take the extra steps.
In the 20 plus years I worked for dealerships, I have only seen 3 cars replaced due to the Lemon Law.

It depends on what you mean by defected. If its actually a manufacturing defect then you should have every right to get your purchase replaced or refunded. If the car just isn't what you thought it would be then I dont think there's anything you can do unless the dealer is willing to work something out with you. It never hurts to ask.

do to the car dealer...nothing ...but I would check the lemon law in your states if you feel you have purchased such a vehicle and see what options are.

walk in the dealership with a ak47 and unload just kidding but u need to go to them and tell them the problems with ur car and ask them if there is anything they can so to fix it if they refuse tell them ur going to the better business bural good luck

go back and check for warranties or extended warranties. see if they knew there was a problem. talk to an attorney specializing in automotive problems
