Honey, if there's one thing I learned way back in school,

there's no such thing as a stupid question.

You had every right to ask him your question, because you were looking for his answer. You weren't completely sure of the answer, so you asked, anyone would.

If my b/f said that to me, I'd seriously wonder what the hell was wrong with him! He know's I'm intelligent. My response "Oh really? Well, why don't you go think about who I am first before you come up with crap like that!" When my inital anger at him dies down, I'd ask him if he had a bad day today. If he did, then I can understand his anger was directed at me, but not caused by me. We'd talk about what "bad" thing happened to him. He apologize, we kiss and make up.

Free advice? Don't get used to anyone speaking to you like that. You did the right thing by leaving and you're right to question seeing him again as well. If he can't simply answer a question, that raises a lot of questions from me about him.

Hope my response has helped you. Glad you posted your question here. Good for you.

Guys can be insesnsitive sometimes, from what I've seen a lot of guys say things like that to eachother and think nothing of it. But what he said was definetly rude for a girl. I'm not an expert but have you ever thought of jokingly replying "you're such a jerk" that way , he may get that you don't appreciate his rudeness and yet he won't be offended and it won't turn into a confrontation .

I understand ur situation my x use to always say i where stupid and sort of slow because of the questions id ask. I told him the criticisms had to stop they didn't so i let him go. U tell your bf that you didn't like what he said it really hurt you and if he continue 2 criticize u then let him go its to many with respect out there in the world

We all feel very bad when people we like abuse us. But it doesn't mean you should break up with him or anything. You've just gotta stand your ground and take it as a joke. And make sure you don't allow him to say that to you anymore. If he does you make him aware that you ain't what he says you are. Coz everybody makes mistakes in life. Not only you baby!

was he laughing or serious or yelling?

laughing, it's easy, just tell him it hurt your feelings, and hopefully that will be the last time he does something like that, he was just carelessly kidding and he didn't mean it to hurt your feelings

if he was serious then it's time for a new BF. you can try the above advice, but someone who cares about you should never say that non-jokingly...

Hi Amy, That is so rude of him to do that to you. I would of just walk away and said nothing. He needs to say he is SORRY to you. If you don't hear this,i wouldn't go out with him until he does.
A Friend.
