I remember when straightening my hair took the better part of 2 and a half hours...now there's so many products that help and better-made straightening irons, it's a snap.
Go out to Wal-mart or whatever and walk down the hair care aisle. Take a look around, about 80-90% of the common brands will have specially made products for helping to straighten (as well as others made to help curl) hair. Pick any brand you like, it really doesn't matter as they all have similiar ingredients and work the same way. Buy a few products, depending on what you can afford at the time. You MUST have a straightening mousse or gel, and a silicone-based serum. If you have the money, go ahead and buy a straightening shampoo and conditioner as well as these help prepare the hair.
If you don't have a good hair straightening iron, buy one of those too....even the most expensive ones at Wal-mart will run you about $25 so it's not that bad. Some have more features than others so take a look around.
Once you have everything you need, go back home and wash your hair with your new products. Towel dry and comb through. Apply mousse or gel and a small bit of the serum (it helps to protect the hair from damage as well as adding shine). Heat up your straightener. If your straightener can be used on wet or dry hair, I suggest using it while the hair is still wet...you will get less damage that way. If it is not made to use on wet hair, blow dry first until 'nearly' dry THEN use the straightener.
You may find it easier to divide hair into sections and do the back and undersides first working your way to the top and front. Also, I suggest practicing on a weekend or something when you have plenty of time to mess with it and not be pressed for time. Plus, if it doesn't turn out so great, or you have a hard time getting curls out of the parts you can't see easily, etc. you can work on it or re-wash it or whatever and not worry about going to work/school with your hair less than perfect.
A word of caution: if you hair is extremely curly and/or prone to changes in humidity, etc. you have to be careful when you straighten it. If it's raining, snowing, high humidity, etc. you may find that parts of your hair will tend to curl back up again no matter how well you straightened it!
Good luck!

There are allot of products on the market to help you get your hair straight without using chemicals.
Using special product along with blow drying and if needed a straightening iron as well.
Some of the manufacturers that have products I like to use are: Charles Worthington; this line has shampoos ,conditioners and styling products to help straighten hair and give it a nice shine.....it smells awesome too. Special Effects FX has a mousse that I like called "Silky Smooth" it glosses and smooths hair while styling. ProVitamin E InstantRepair hair serum is great even though it does not say it helps straighten hair.
These are all products you can get from retail stores like WalMart , K-mart, CVS Drug stores, Target etc etc etc.
Good luck and I hope that this helps you out a little!!

you should only flat iron dry hair ,,,, Big tip Blow dry roots straight by comb over method then move flat iron in small sections , NEVER stop iron on hair use heat resistant comb behind iron...................Word of advice I read below . Flat iron wet hair is BAD Steam has no were to go but back into the cuticle witch will blow apart only a T3 wet to dry allows the steam to escape ,but it sucks

Hair Straightener of course. but get some product that you can put in your hair so when you straighten it ...so..your hair wont look frizzy ( it tends to happen).. and damaged. Straightening your hair damages it.so if your gonna straighten it a lot like... every day or every other day then get some shampoo to help your hair.

Hope i helped. :)
