Every state has different laws then you have to go down to the county laws or city laws where the school is at. In the county i work for our juvenile jail can only hold you for 90 days which i think is too short of a time. After the 90 days you go to training school for 3 months and then come back to us and repeat until you are able to find a new school or work out a deal with the judge. It's all crap. I would put them in the adult jail and let them sweat it out with big bubba.

Since Columbine, the laws are getting more strict on this type of offense, and rightfully so. I believe that anyone caught with a weapon in school should go to juvie for at least a year, as well as at least six months of therapy. Take a pencil instead.

I wouldn't go for any length of time. It would not be worth it to me. That said, I feel that the parents of this point in time should be outraged that their children would even be considering such actions. I feel that the laws of the country, and the misguidance of parents has led to this situation. The lack of respect for authority is at the feet of the parents. Moral disintegration lies there as well. The idea of "my child would never do that" is one of the biggest lies that many parents have fallen for over the last 40 years. Their little angels are some of the worst demons that ever walked into a school when the parents are not there to see what they do.

In my high school, one would just be suspended for the rest of the year.

Far too light of a punishment if you ask me. Things may be different now, and probably are. I was in high school 10+ years ago.

first, you are looking at a felony. Checking my local HS handbook, you will be expelled forever and forced to attend school at the juv detention center to grad. Then, answering for the charges, you are looking at lockup until up to age 23.
