I've heard of Coke and rum, but Coke and Hershey's Cocoa...? Mmmmm.

Seriously, though, that rumor is false. So is the one that says the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints owns Pepsi. http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/mormon.asp

I seriously doubt it because the Mormon religion totally disallows the consumption of caffeine (which Coke contains a lot of). Mormons won't even eat chocolate, which contains FAR less caffeine!

People probably say such a thing about the Mormons and Coca Cola just because the situation would be ironic and controversial.

Then again, now that I think about how corrupt the world is these days (especially religion and big business)... I guess it's possible that the Mormons could have purchased Coke *indirectly* through a third or fourth party. Rumors are often true or partially true.

It's not true; Coca Cola is publicly traded and is owned by literally hundreds of thousands of shareholders.

By the way, it's irrelevant to this question that Mormons don't drink Coke; that doesn't forbid them from profiting off people who do. The important point is that no single person or entity is a majority shareholder in Coca Cola.

I live in Utah and am not Mormon. I've heard it said a number of times that the LDS church owns stock in Coke, but I have no proof of it one way or the other. However, I attend a lot of LDS events, and coke is frequently served. I was just at one at a seriously religious building next to Temple Square in downtown SLC, and in the kitchen was the soft drink dispenser with only coke products. Many Mormons don't drink any soda, but those who do, in my observation, always buy coke products. I've seen this same thing at numerous Mormon events. You NEVER see Pepsi products. So much for those of you who said Mormons would never drink it due to the caffine.

I am not sure; Coca Cola is publicly traded and probably has a ton of shareholders. Maybe the Mormons are institutional investors and hold a large stake in it. I doubt it though.

Well it USED to be true. The LDS church used to have stock in Coca-Cola but has sold it. The church has stock in a lot of various companies. Most of which are based in Utah.

No, not true. The Mormon church use to have stock in a bunch of various public companies, but has now completely divested themselves. They do own their own companies, but that is unrelated.

I'd be surprised if it did. Caffeinated drinks are forbidden in Mormonism, and Coca Cola is loaded with caffeine.
