When I say this in Spanish...?

My good guy friend speaks Spanish and when I say "perdoname" he gets really upset and says he doesn't like it when I say perdoname. I know it means "forgive me" or you say it when you are really sorry, so I don't understand why he doesn't like it when I say that. Anyone know?

I use "Lo siento" but when it was something serious...I said "perdoname" because it was a serious misunderstanding and I hurt his feelings.

and I KNOW I didn't use accents, sorry.

you should ask him, he knows why it upsets him better than anyone on a website. it may not have anything to do with the langauge itself, as i previously said

Maybe "perdoname" sounds too personal for him. Perdoname literally means forgive me and it's a more serious way of apologizing. The transaltion of 'perdoname' is 'forgive me', and that's how it's used in spanish. Whether that's what you want to say or not is up to you based on the situation, sounds like it was appropriate.

Sounds like he speaks a more 'relaxed' Spanish. Perdoname is very formal .. perhaps it even sounds like you are excusing yourself for burping.. lol.. If you are saying perdoname because you are wanting him to repeat a word for you .. or you think you misunderstood an instruction or something.. try saying mande? which really means 'send me' but hey.. slang is slang. If mande is still bothering him.. ask what word he thinks is appropriate and try using it 'til it feels comfortable. I learned some spanish in high school in the midwest but it was just a toe in the water for me. I moved to LA in the 60s and I learned from so many people from so many countrys.. a word here, a word there and soon people who spoke spanish were asking me where I was from. If people look like you said something strange you probably did.. just ask them how to say, what you just said correctly. It works and someday you will be able to be the bridge. I was in LA two years and on a bus to downtown LA from Hollywood. A lady was having a hard time understanding the bus driver who didn't speak any spanish. She was obviously on the wrong bus but didn't know american for her numbers, nor much else than hello.. She begged in spanish for any of the passengers to tell her what the bus driver was saying. Nobody answered. When she asked a second time she scathingly said in spanish.. 'Doesn't anybody speak christian here?' (Christiano)... lol.. It would have made some people mad, but I caught her eye and told her she needed bus number 94.. which was coming along this same route and she could catch it at the next stop. She smiled and said thank you. she got off the bus we were on, and I never saw her again.. of course not.. I was not on her bus going her direction ever. lol.. If I didn't know her 'slang' I wouldn't know she was asking for a spanish speaking person to intrepet, and not for goodness knows what.. a church? So don't reject any slang words you can learn.. its all part of the puzzle. Good luck on your Spanish. I suppose you have found that the music is the best!!

''perdoname'' is more likely to mean ''pardon me'' ... it's more powerful.

but if u say ''disculpa'' or ''lo siento'' it is more likely to be ''im sorry'' or ''sorry''

just say..."disculpame"

i kinda understand him, but maybe you just have to be yourself, what i always say.don't try to be somebody else.
it's like when i go to mexico, people say in english i'm sorry, hurry up,come on,loser,and lots of things,as if they could't speak spanish perfectly,that pisses me off because they're messing up my language.
