My worst is LAX. No decent shops or food anywhere in sight and a terrible place to kill a few hours.

Tough question. Pittsburgh is a lousy airport to sleep in bc all the chairs have armrests (purposely put there to stop ppl from lying down). I was once stranded in a snow storm there and had to stay overnight. Next time, I will pay for a motel. OTOH Pittsburgh had a lot of nice stores and no sales tax on clothes and shoes. St Louis was once rated as having the most unhealthy food bc you couldn't get a salad anywhere in the airport. Midway in Chicago has very limited food selection. Essentially baloney sandwichs and hostess fruit pies. Houston Intercontinental always seems hot and damp despite airconditioning. The NYC/NJ area airports have good eateries there. London Heathrow seemed to have a lot of nice shops. Schiphol (Amsterdam) has a lot of great food. All kinds of chocolates and pastries. OK, I had to name some good airports.

Osaka airport.
We had to spend 8 hours in the International terminal, waiting for our flight back to Australia.
There were NO shops open, because it was rather late at night, these tv's in the lounge played the SAME japanese cooking show, over and over and over again- and it was pretty uncomfortable. Those horrible plastic chairs. They had vending machines, but unfrotunatley, the money exchange booth wasn't open, so anyone going to osaka airport on stopover- change some money into yen before you get there!

Worst Airport List for US - Chicago O'Hare, Illinois

Why? "Crap", "O'Hell", Uncomfortable hard plastic seats with armrests, often crowded with travellers stranded due to a snow storm, lots of security announcements, air-conditioning too cold (Children's play area is the only place with heat), smells like "feet and broccoli", noise, "long walks" to find food, fluorescent lights buzz continuously

Frankfurt and Rome, too small for the traffic they carry, and both have the incomprhensible directions.
