My nephew just got his ears pierced with those big holes, later on when that is not the style, what can he do? will he have to get his ears stitched up to make them look normal again?

Will they sag over time, like the tribe people on tv?

Ask him what size gauge his ears are at. Gauge refers to the thickness of the metal, wood, acrylic, or whatever else his ear plugs or tunnels are. The smaller the number, the larger the hole. A gauge of 2 (roughly 1/4 inch in diameter) is generally noted to be "the point of no return," meaning that they will never fully close up. If they are under a gauge of 2, they should be able to close up completely, or at least to the size of a standard earring.

If they are over a gauge of 2 and at some point in his life he no longer likes them, they can close up to a smaller, less in-your-face size. But yes, surgery would be required for them to close up entirely.

If you are afraid that they will hurt his chances of getting certain jobs, skin-colored ear plugs are available to hide the gaping holes in his ears.

My dad asked me the same thing when I first stretched my ears (mine are at exactly a gauge of 2). I told him that in 30 years I'd have better things to worry about than my earlobes :P

yes the only way to reduce the holes from the large guage piercings is thru surgery. hopefully he wont regret it

It will leave hole, just like a normal piercing does (only bigger).
