This sounds like typical apprentice work when they don't practice enough on pig skin, etc., and/or are also new on human flesh, they tend to either be far too superficial if the client seems to be reacting to pain, or they are very heavy handed thinking that is what is needed to get into the skin. Heavy handed work is simply going to take longer to heal.

Thank you for letting her do that, they have to start somewhere. To the artist who feels the needle was bad, I disagree. I would think that her mentor made her loupe the needle to be sure it was fine. I know it can be damaged in the ink cap, etc. but that is not the likely scenario.

Apprentices are so busy trying to get the job done as artistically and safely as they can that stretching often goes by the wayside. A bad stretch is one of the biggest reasons for the needle hanging up in the skin and snagging.

If it is not improved in a couple more days, give a call to the studio.

Sounds as if your tattoo artist had a bad needle to be pulling skin. Being left or right handed shouldn't make any difference. There usually is a bit of redness after the tattoo..as well as it raising above the skin for a small time period. Like one or two days it should go away.

For a personal note to everyone that reads this...SCARRING IS NOT NORMAL IN TATTOOING! It freaks me out seeing all these posts saying that it's completely normal.

For the record..don't be afraid of apprentices..everyone has to start somewhere..and before they even touch a customer's skin they are usually well studied in tattooing. I myself, tattooed myself before I could even think of touching a customer. I hope this helps.

Yeah it's normal for their to be redness around where you get your tattoo. After all, it's a kind of sore. Like if you scraped yourself or whatever. It would turn red around the actual scab. How long ago did you get your tattoo? If it's been more than a week I would look into it. But if you just got it today, expect redness, bleeding, soreness. That's all normal.

WHY did you let this person tattoo you? i really can't think of a situation where i would knowingly let someone who is inexperienced tattoo me! tattoos are an injury to the skin without any further aggravation. my skin is always red around the tattoo but not for almost a week. your skin is obviously seriously inflamed. you will probably have scarring. if she doesn't even have the proper equipment to tattoo then she really shouldn't be doing it. i hope your tattoo turns out okay.

Redness is normal. You should only worry if touching it becomes more painful then it normally would and if you develop any swelling. That would be a sign of infection.

Try local treatment (Povidone Iodide if you are not allergic to Iodine) and local antibiotic powder, or even better, visit a doctor...
