actually You can do anything you want and as long as you do the work yourself and a couple of buddy's(it will save you alot of money) it's not that bad. Me personaly the only pro's to doing this swap is if you are putting it on the track and looking for times. Me personally, I would do the whole swap, jerk out the 6 cyl and drop in a 5.0 V8 (yes it will fit). while you are at it

If you are well off no, it is not outrageous. If you have other financial obligations it would be an extreme luxury to think seriously about. An automatic transmission is very expensive to repair compared to a manual transmission too. You have to compare wants with needs to make this decision.

junkyard price around 500 for a good trans, you'll also need a drive shaft and floor shifter, proabley a different speedometer cable, finding a complete donor car would be the best, it will cost a bunch to do this

I think it is going to run more than the car is probably worth, you are going to be better off selling the car and buying one with automatic. My guesstimate is that it will cost $8K ish just to put it in.

Yup. Just trade it in for an automatic.

Much less trouble.

Matter of fact, while your trading it in, get a V8. That 6 cylinder is total crap.

I could ballbark it around 1,000. unless your car is in mint cond., i would probably suggest upgrading to a later model v-8 and get a little more driving pleasure.
