Because living here is very expensive. Plus we have a lot of social problems, including a serious crystal meth/ice epdemic that is paralyzing our communities. Life in Hawai'i is no longer laidback and carefree. Both parents have to work 2 to 3 jobs to pay the mortgage and/or rent. Our children have no supervision, so they are at the will of the tv or other influences. Greedy developers and investors have ruined the sense of place and sense of community for which Hawai'i was once famous.

Have you searched for housing there recently.....probably not, it is more expensive than even good old California and the governer's main source of revenue to buy his yacht and beach house. Swarrzzeneger has done us a lot of good, but he still refuses to act on our housing situation......it's outrageous, the only people buying here are the ones that are relocating to somewhere cheaper within the state. It's worse in Hawaii. An average home is in the 6 or 7 hundred thousand range there......

Hawaii lifestyle SUCKS. Many people do not want to live there because most locals are racist, the drug crime is high, crime over all is high like any other state but worse for a small island. It gets boring very easily being on a small island, you drive around in circles. You feel isolated, gambling is illegal -therefore there are no lottery tickets at 7-11 & there are no Casino's in Hawaii. The job industry is another that i am going to complain about, low class job with crappy salaries. The houses are not worth what you pay for, you don't get the luxury of the price. It's ghetto, the worse island of all is O'ahu. That's the island i lived on for 2 years. I hated it & never want to live there again.

If you are talking about Americans, I think its because Americans like to drive and go places, explore. But its hard to do that on an island. If you are talking about foreigners, I think the cost of living and language barriers have a lot to do with them not wanting to live there...outside of that, it would be a good second home.

Too isolated geographically. People from the mainland get "rock fever". No place to go. Also better hospitals on the mainland
